The National was a huge win for the whole SlabStox crew

We need events like The National to serve as a reminder about why we’re doing this. Now that we’re back from Chicago, the SlabStox team reflects on the weekend. We raised $109k for charity, we saw some incredible cards, and we made some sweet deals. The packed showfloor was proof that the hobby is absolutely thriving. Our favorite part of the weekend was just chatting with so many passionate collectors. The National was a huge win all around.

But let’s talk individual sports. In basketball, Dame Lillard’s market has really softened ever since March. He’s settled in pretty low especially now that it’s the offseason. His market will rebound whenever something energizes his career, like a trade away from Portland.

On the baseball front, Gleyber Torres’ cards are on a roller coaster. Over the past month, he’s spiked and dipped like crazy as no one’s sure what to make of him as a player. Just don’t pay over comps on his basic cards, as there’s a good chance it’ll be tough to make your money back anytime soon.

Lastly, we’re talking Kaboom in our soccer segment — specifically Neymar Jr. These weren’t pack-issued, but rather part of the 2018 Panini Rewards program. This set is super sought-after, as it had a lot of good names and Kabooms are a generally beloved insert. Neymar’s on the rise given the World Cup next year.

That’s it for this week, thanks for watching! If you have any questions, make sure to tune into our livestream on Loupe on Thursday, August 5 at 6pm Eastern. We’ll be talking about the hobby, the National, and answering your questions about how the market is moving.
