What’s in the Box: 2021 Topps Chrome Black Baseball Preview

It’s been quite the year, and Topps is looking to close out 2021 in strong fashion. Last year, Topps debuted the Chrome Black cards for the first time, and they were received with love by the community. To the surprise of no one, Black is back. On December 8, baseball collectors and MLB fans got something to look forward to with Topps’ 2021 installment.

The 2021 Topps Chrome Black Hobby Box features past legends, current superstars, and rookies who’ve graced the diamond over the years, and we got new inserts that deserve our attention. So what’s in the box?

What To Expect

Cards per pack: Hobby – 4

Packs per box: Hobby – 1

Boxes per case: Hobby – 12

Set size: 100 cards

What’s New

Topps Chrome Black will remain consistent by giving us a 100 base card set featuring a blend of rookies and veterans. Each box should contain two base cards. However, Topps has added two new parallels. The Purple Refractor Parallel (numbered to 150) and the Green Atomic Refractor Parallel (numbered to 99) make their debut. Each box will have one parallel inserted.

Autos

Next, with one guaranteed in every box the other two inserts include the Base Autographs and the Super Futures Autographs that will be in encased holders.

The Base Autographs are numbered to 150 in addition to parallels. Parallels include Refractors (/150), Green Refractors (/99), Gold Refractors (/50), Orange Refractors (/25), Red Refractors (/5) and Superfractors (1/1). Base autos are expected to be relatively similar design-wise to what we’ll see from the parallels in the base set.

As for the Super Future Autographs, these inserts will potentially be the most unique in design and the most sought after in the entire release due to featuring young star players. The base versions are numbered to 99 and will be including four parallels: Gold Refractors (/50), Orange Refractors (/25), Red Refractors (/5), and Superfractors (1/1). You’ll definitely want to keep your eyes out for big hit names like Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in this one.

Ultimately, this release is highly anticipated and it seems it will live up to the hype built on its debut last year. Be sure to jump on the Loupe App and keep your eyes open for the Black Chrome release in our sellers’ shops and pre-sale listings on December 8.
